DAM – German Museum of Architecture
Workshop with two 4th grade classes of Frankfurt’s Pestalozzi School
In September 2009, I conducted a one-week workshop for 4th grade students of Frankfurt-Riederwald’s Pestalozzi school. Subject of the workshop was, taking pictures of architectural structures; it was initiated by the German Museum of Architecture (DAM) – as part of their exhibition “Martin Elsaesser and the New Frankfurt”.
Never before had I answered so many questions in one week – nor had I ever learned so much doing it.
The students’ interest and vitality were simply contagious. It was fascinating to see how a few instructions – how to use the camera, how to work with depth perspective or assistance with shades and shadows – were sufficient to awaken hidden talents. And the thrill and enjoyment of discovering new images was a very exciting experience for everyone involved, especially when we all together viewed the results of the week’s work. A big compliment to the students, the teachers and especially 4th grade teacher Mrs. Carola Mundo, who supported the workshop enthusiastically.
